I'm not a fan of big tour groups but often it is the most economical and practical when visiting the most popular places in the world.

But when I can, I will organise and plan to explore my own way, whether travelling solo or with friends/family. There's more freedom and flexibility. 

And ocassionally, you can get the best of both worlds by hiring a private guide.
